FC Goa comes into the match with a strong performance, securing a 4-1 victory against Mohun Bagan Super Giant in their recent league encounter at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium. This win extends their unbeaten streak to nine matches (W7 D2 L0), placing them at the top of the league table with 23 points, tied with Kerala Blasters FC.
In contrast, NorthEast United FC currently occupies the eighth position with 11 points from 11 matches. Their recent ISL fixture against Bengaluru FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw, marking their sixth consecutive match without a win (W0 D3 L3).
The previous ISL meeting between these teams during the 2022/2023 season at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium concluded in a 2-2 draw. Edu Bedia and Iker Guarrotxena scored for Goa, while Wilmar Jordán netted twice for NorthEast United.
FC Goa has maintained an upper hand in recent encounters, being unbeaten in the last three ISL matches against NorthEast United (W1 D2 L0). NorthEast United aims to secure their first league victory against Goa since December 2021, with Goa holding a 5-4 goal advantage during their unbeaten streak.
Noah Sadaoui has been a key contributor to Goa’s attack, scoring four goals, including one match-opening goal, placing him tied for fifth in the league’s scoring charts in the 2023/2024 season. NorthEast United relies on the goal-scoring abilities of Parthib Gogoi, Néstor Albiach, and Phalguni Singh, with Gogoi leading the club with three goals, followed by Albiach and Singh with two each.
In home matches this season, NorthEast United has recorded two wins, two draws, and two losses in six ISL contests. They aim to end a three-match home winless streak (W0 D2 L1) dating back to November 26 against Bengaluru FC. On the other hand, FC Goa remains undefeated in away league matches this season, boasting three wins and one draw. They are currently on a four-match away unbeaten streak (W3 D1 L0), with their last away defeat occurring on February 23 against Bengaluru FC.
Looking at their recent form, NorthEast United has drawn three and lost three of their last six league matches, while FC Goa has won four and drawn two in their last six encounters.
Based on current form and recent performance, FC Goa is the clear favorite to win the match. Their strong defense, organized play, and clinical finishing will be tough for NorthEast to break down. However, NorthEast’s home advantage and passionate fans could inspire a strong performance, especially if they can exploit any defensive vulnerabilities in Goa’s backline.
This will be an entertaining match with FC Goa likely to win, but NorthEast shouldn’t be underestimated at home. A narrow victory for Goa (1-0 or 2-1) is a possibility, but a draw or even a surprise NorthEast win wouldn’t be a complete shock.

The Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, also known as Sarusajai Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium located in the Lokhra locality of Guwahati, Assam, India. The stadium was constructed in 2007 to host the 33rd National Games of India and was named in tribute to the late Indira Gandhi, who was the third Prime Minister of India. Over the years, it has hosted several significant events, including the 2007 National Games of India, the 2016 South Asian Games, and the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
With a seating capacity of 21,600 people, the stadium was initially built with a mostly standing capacity for 35,000 people. However, this capacity was later reduced to below 25,000 after individual seats were installed in 2017 during the preparation for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The stadium serves as the home ground for NorthEast United FC and is utilized for various athletic events. Notably, it recorded the highest attendance for a football game in Assam when 32,844 spectators came to witness the ISL match between NorthEast United and visitors Chennaiyin on 20 October 2016.
Beyond sports, the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium has played host to other significant events, including the Assam Global Investors’ Summit on 3 and 4 February 2018 and the 65th Filmfare Awards on 15 February 2020. The stadium stands as a versatile and important venue in the region, contributing to both sports and non-sports activities.
The Indian Super League (ISL) is the men’s highest level of the Indian football league system. It was founded on 21 October 2013 with the aim of growing the sport of football in India and increasing its exposure in the country. The league is co-promoted by Reliance, Star India, and supported by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
The ISL began play in October 2014 with eight teams. During its first three seasons, the competition operated without official recognition from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which is the governing body for the sport in Asia. It was structured along the same lines as the Indian Premier League, the country’s premier Twenty20 franchise-based cricket competition. Each season lasted just three months, from October to December, and matches were held daily.
However, before the 2017–18 season, the league expanded to ten teams, extended its schedule to six months, and earned recognition from the AFC. The season runs from September to March and includes a 22-round regular season followed by playoffs involving the top six teams, culminating with the ISL Final to determine the champions. At the end of the regular season, the team with the most points is declared the premiers and presented with the League Winners’ Shield.
Currently, the league comprises 12 clubs. ISL clubs gain qualification to the Asian continental club competitions; regular-season premiers qualify directly for the subsequent season’s AFC Cup group stage. The league has received unmatched visibility in a short span of time and is speculated to be one of the top-tier leagues in India after the I-League.
