Odisha FC will face Mohun Bagan Super Giant on Tuesday, with both teams currently safe from relegation in the Indian Super League. Their previous encounter in February at Kalinga Stadium ended in a goalless draw.
Mohun Bagan has had the upper hand in recent matchups, remaining unbeaten in their last nine ISL matches against Odisha, with four wins and five draws. Odisha’s last league victory over Mohun Bagan dates back to December 2020, with Mohun Bagan outscoring Odisha 12-4 during this unbeaten streak.
The performances of Roy Krishna and Diego MaurĂcio have been crucial for Odisha this season. Krishna is their top scorer with 12 goals, the second highest in the league, including four opening goals in matches. MaurĂcio has also been impressive with 11 goals, including four match-opening goals.
Odisha had a strong home record last season, winning six, drawing two, and losing two of their ten ISL matches. In contrast, Mohun Bagan had three wins, five draws, and three losses in their 11 away ISL matches.
In their last six league matches, Odisha has won two, drawn one, and lost three, while Mohun Bagan has won five and lost one.
This is likely to be a close encounter. Mohun Bagan’s experience and overall form give them a slight edge, but Odisha’s home advantage and recent momentum shouldn’t be underestimated.
Mohun Bagan might win on away soil, but it could be a narrow victory. A draw is also a strong possibility.

Kalinga Stadium is a multi-purpose international sports complex located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. The stadium is situated in the heart of Bhubaneswar near the Nayapalli area and is owned by the Government of Odisha, operated by the Sports and Youth Services.
The foundation stone of Kalinga Stadium was laid by the former chief minister of Odisha, Biju Patnaik, in 1978. Established in 2010, the stadium gained widespread reputation for successfully hosting the “90 Days Challenge” for the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships.
The stadium offers a wide range of facilities, including provisions for athletics, football, field hockey, tennis, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, wall climbing, and swimming. Noteworthy features include an 8-lane synthetic athletics track, high-performance centers, and India’s first Olympic standard pink and blue water-based AstroTurf.
With a capacity of 15,000, the stadium recorded its highest attendance during the start of the Asian Athletics Championships in 2017. Kalinga Stadium has been a venue for various sporting events, including the Asian Athletics Championships in 2017, the Men’s Hockey World Cup in 2018, and the Indian Super League.
It serves as the home ground for the I League Club Indian Arrows since 2018 and the Indian Super League Club Odisha FC since its inception in 2019. The stadium stands as a symbol of Odisha’s commitment to promoting sports and providing world-class infrastructure for athletes and enthusiasts alike.
The Indian Super League (ISL) is the men’s highest level of the Indian football league system. It was founded on 21 October 2013 with the aim of growing the sport of football in India and increasing its exposure in the country. The league is co-promoted by Reliance, Star India, and supported by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
The ISL began play in October 2014 with eight teams. During its first three seasons, the competition operated without official recognition from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which is the governing body for the sport in Asia. It was structured along the same lines as the Indian Premier League, the country’s premier Twenty20 franchise-based cricket competition. Each season lasted just three months, from October to December, and matches were held daily.
However, before the 2017–18 season, the league expanded to ten teams, extended its schedule to six months, and earned recognition from the AFC. The season runs from September to March and includes a 22-round regular season followed by playoffs involving the top six teams, culminating with the ISL Final to determine the champions. At the end of the regular season, the team with the most points is declared the premiers and presented with the League Winners’ Shield.
Currently, the league comprises 12 clubs. ISL clubs gain qualification to the Asian continental club competitions; regular-season premiers qualify directly for the subsequent season’s AFC Cup group stage. The league has received unmatched visibility in a short span of time and is speculated to be one of the top-tier leagues in India after the I-League.
